CONFIDENTIAL 815TH BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON (H) 483RD BOMBARDMENT GROUP (H) OFFICE OF THE OPERATIONS OFFICER APO 520 20 February 1945 SUBJECT: Statement of Pilot on Plane # 44-6495. TO : Whom it Maz Concern. While flying on a mission to Vienna, Austria, I saw aircraft # 509 pull out of formation immediately after bombs away, and the pilot, Lt Neuman proceeded to feather # 1 engine. He seemed to be in no other trouble, other than # 1 engine. Our box was rallying so I rallied with them thinking Lt Neuman would join the formation again. The last time I saw him, he was being tracked by a lot of flak. Lt Neuman in ship # 509 failed to join the formation. s1 OSCAR FELLER t OSCAR FELLER lst yt, Air Corps ASN 0-812964 Pilot A CERTIFIED TRUE COPY Arthur Borden ARTHUR C. Additional information of the Person. Supposition and heresay. According to some of my crew members, they clain that his parachute and body was found by the Russian. The parachute unopened. It could be that the bailing altutude was too low for the air to fill in the chute and I positively saw a falling object falling down through the space which could have been his body. The German soldiers told me 1 was the only one captured or found in their territory. The Russians should have accounted for this missing person. I remained at the place where 1 bailed out, (about five miles from the bail out place of others ) how- ever 1 did not see any signs of him. There were others of the air force that joined there. Well this is all 1 could say. Sincerely Yours, Herbert 8 Genoze
