840tb BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON (H) 483rd BOMBARDMENT GROUP (H) Office of the Operations Officer APO 520 30 July 1944 STATEMENT OF WITNESS Airplane No. 42-32010 was hit in No. 2 Engine at 1108 immediately after bombs away and caught fire. The fire grew more intense flaming up to the top of the bomb bay. The olane flew steadily on: losing altitude slightly while the chutes were being counted by our men. Nine chutes were seen to open, the ball turret man was the first one out according to our crew. He opened his door and fell out, apparently having his chute in the ball with him. He made a delayed jump. The ship was never out of control and did not blow up, but disintegrated at 1114 at approximately 47° 04° N 18° SSE. Rollin ROLLIN R. R.
